A Wow Item - Just Terrific

Review Date: June 30, 2009
Reviewer: F. William Hessmer, Chevy Chase, MD USA
Just received this last week. Of course, Amazon beat any other pricing by a wide margin - by at least $500 for the cheapest store bought price (on sale) and I even checked some stores on a walk in and they were charging $1,000 above the Amazon price or more. Delivery was free and could not wait to get this set out of the box. I researched a great many LCD's before picking this one. I wanted the very latest technology to ward off obsolesence, at the best price I could find, and am not disappointed one bit by this set. Easy set up, and just with the building's digital antenna, the picture is absolutely outstanding. There are many presets, but with a bit of tweaking, as it appears with most LCDs, you get a terrific picture. You can customize each preset if you wish. Setting adjustments are intuitive and the screen navigation is very easy. Sound is pretty decent as well, although I already have it hooked into my AV. I have already watched sports, television and DVDs and all have been as crisp, vibrant, without drag or latency, as I have ever seen on an LCD this size. The contrast ratio is just unreal and my eyes are still getting used to it. Plenty of input/output options including plenty of HDMI and even ethernet and PC connections. Having Fios HD installed this week and can't wait to see how it looks. So far, am very satisfied and would definitely recommend at the price. Thanks Amazon!
Amazing picture

I bought this TV because of Sony's legendary reputation in beautiful pictures and previous experience with the XBR line. As expected, the picture is absolutely great. If you want amazing HDTV, then this set is for you. The TV has a very simple and understated front, which I like a lot. The Amazon delivery was great! Two men brought it into the house, put it where we wanted it, connected it, turned it on and checked the remote for operation. The deliveryman was familiar with the TV and went above and beyond by doing the initial setup, which admittedly was simple, but not something he was required to do. There are only two drawbacks so far. The stand is flimsy feeling and wobbles like a weeble if you bump the set. My XBR4 had a rock solid stand. I just attached a cable to the wall for piece of mind (didn't want it falling on the grand kids). The second thing is a lack of PIP or P&P, both of which were on my KDL40XBR4. Bottom line--love it so far.
Wonderful TV

Tried the LG 47 inch LH40 and then the Samsung 46 inch LED B6000. Had both for about two weeks before returning them. The Sony not only has more features but has a much better and consistent picture than the previous two. The LG has a major lip synch problem and the Samsung had a great picture as long as you were in front of it. Anything slightly to the side and the picture was unwatchable. The sound on this Tv is great as well. Definately a wonderful TV and I strongly recommend it.
Sony 46XBR9 is an excellent TV and worth the price

Sony BRAVIA XBR Series KDL-46XBR9 46-Inch 1080p 240Hz LCD HDTV, BlackI did extensive research to determine the best quality TV for my bedroom and settled on Sony's 46XBR9. The picture is excellent and the built-in internet capability is exceptional. We rent from Amazon movies all the time, which has saved money on our cable bill since we were able to reduce our plan. The other TVs I compared were Samsung's LED, which is nice and light, but I worry about the reliability now, expecially since the technology is new. I have seen both pictures and the XBR9 compares well with the LED. Sony's XBR8 has the ultimate picture, but it is pricy and lacks the internet capability. I also have a 52XBR6, which has a very vivid picture and I love it. I haven't seen much difference with the faster speed of the XBR9, but it's nice to have it for high-speed action. The price with Amazon was exceptional, and you want to watch prices from day to day because they vary several hundred dollars sometimes. Amazon usually doesn't adjust the price you paid if a new price goes down in 30 days, but they were nice enough to do it in my case. I also bought surge protectors from Amazon, but bought my heavy duty wall mount from another site. Amazon is excellent and my new Sony was delivered with "white glove" efficiency and care. Great TV and purchase experience.

i have owned sony televisions for more than 25 years and was very happy with my recent purchase. the picture is beautiful. a nice feature is if you are switching between ps3 players and other attachments the tv indicates which input jacks are active so you dont waste a lot of time. i still haven't figured out a simple way to set the sleep timer. the old sony's had a button on the remote for that function. if you have an old sony, the remote will work with this set. i'm sure that if i had more time to read the owner's manual i could figure it out quickly. i would recommend this television to friends and family.

Great TV for the money

Review Date: April 14, 2009
Reviewer: Bunson Honeydew, White Plains, NY
This is my first HDTV. I bought it because my brother-in-law has the previous model, which is pretty much the same. He loves it for the bedroom because it's light and just all around a great TV.

Cable broadcasts in 720p/1080i. So unless you have the room and money for a larger screen, have a Blu-Ray DVD player or are a serious gamer, go with the 720P and save yourself some bread.

I'm very happy with the sound and picture. I do not have this hooked up to a home theater. There are plenty of inputs, so it should work well for your system. I tried my JVC HD camcorder and it was simple to connect and view.

So far so good, when in doubt buy a Sony

Review Date: April 7, 2009
Reviewer: J. R. Tees,
I purchased this TV about a month ago as a replacement for a fairly new SDTV, that I merely replaced because I wanted something with more component connections that I could use for a multitude of different purposes. (Gaming, movies, HD programming etc.) As of this writing, I couldn't be more satisfied the picture and sound are both amazing and it's everything I was expecting and a whole lot more. Word to the wise though, You will need HD service and an HD receiver in order to get the most out of this set in terms of HD programming. I really dig the cinema setting that darkens the picture (This is optional) to replicate a movie theater experience when watching a movie, it's a pretty cool feature. And in my opinion it's hard to go wrong with a Sony due to their trusted name as a reputable brand.
Great TV for PC monitor and television viewing

Review Date: October 28, 2009
Reviewer: Harry Hussey, Boston, MA
We have had this for about 2 weeks and are very happy with it. It was very easy to set up. Our cable package only has broadcast stations but with this we seem to be able to get the digital versions of a whole lot of basic cable channels. Unfortunately, there's still nothing on them except reality shows and procedurals reruns, so it just confirmed for us the uselessness of cable TV.

I hooked up my Mac Mini with a DVI to HDMI cable and got a Microsoft Wireless keyboard and mouse for it. It works very well as a PC monitor and we are able to watch Netflix Watch Instantly movies, YouTube videos and TV shows from Hulu or the networks' sites. We are using Boxee.tv as an interface and that works well. Next up, get an eyeTV so we can use the thing as a DVR.

This is working out exactly as I had hoped and I strongly recommend this TV. We checked out the different brands at comparable price points ($400-$500) and only this one and the Samsung really floated our boat. The picture is almost too clear. I mean, how many acne scars do you really want to see? It has a very usable favorites function which allows you to save your channels. It also interfaces with our Sony Home Theater system with an HDMI cable so we can control the whole system with one remote. Actually I can use the Home Theater remote and my wife can use the TV remote and we can have remote wars.

It has a Picture in Picture function so you can watch TV while you're working on your PC. One complaint is that in order to go back to full TV you have to go through more key presses than I would have liked. The only other complaint is that it takes a few seconds to tune in each channel.

We now have a very useable media center in our living room which gives us complete access to all the wonderful entertainment out there on the interwebs!
Beautiful picture

Review Date: April 29, 2009
Reviewer: Michelle J. Jones, Westminster, CA United States
This TV is just what you'd want in a sleek design. The picture is very crisp, great sound, and it hooks up easily with lots of inputs. It works for all viewing and gaming needs. It was really easy to set up right out of the box, and when I turned it on it immediately ran auto set-up, saving a lot of time and hassle.
Great set at a great price!

Review Date: July 16, 2009
Reviewer: ZTT Fan, Louisville, Colorado
I've now purchased two of these sets for family members, and I can't recommend it highly enough as a great low-priced HDTV perfect for bedroom or gaming use.

It sets up very quickly and the built-in ATSC tuner easily finds all local digital TV channels.

The set has a good complement of composite, component and HDMI inputs, and the included remote functions well.

Note that as with all TVs, you will have to make adjustments for accurate color out of the box - manufacturers still set their default settings to make the colors look good in a store, but not accurate.

Still, you can't find a better deal for the price, and unless you're sitting two feet away you'll never notice the difference between the 1366x768 resolution of this set and a full 1920x1080p model.

Note that one of this unit's best features is the ability to mark unused inputs as "Skip" so you don't have to cycle through multiple inputs to toggle between TV and Blu-Ray or a cable or satellite box.

This set also wall mounted beautifully using the Sanus MF110-B1 pivoting arm wall mount - they make a great combo!

In store review.. will update... Very impressed.

Reviewer: Elsee, USA
While walking the long island of small HDTV's... One things immediately stood-out about this Panasonic T.V.
Compared to all the other T.V's (that were in a long row)... we noticed when we stood at a "angle", the Panasonic picture remained crisp and sharp. The majority of other 32" HDTV's were "washed-out" at an angle.
99.5% of all other "exact sized" HDTV's... became out of focus or "dim".... when viewed at an angle.

This is very important (to my husband and I), because this Panasonic HDTV... will always.... have people viewing it at angle. (No couch or chair will be directly in front of this T.V.)

We saw this Panasonic model in "Three stores". Hands-down, this 32" Panasonic HDTV had the sharpest pictures and best, "true-color" ... compared to all the other 32" HDTV's. in it's class.
Awesome LCD - Definitely better then the Samsung equivalent

Review Date: June 5, 2009
Reviewer: tuspan, Sanfran, CA
I have been searching for the best LCD for kitchen/family room, hence no FULL HD as we don't watch bluray movies in the kitchen/family room. Just wanted something with the following requirements:
- great for the kids;
- easy to use remote for the kids;
- next to nothing light reflection;
- non-full HD, i.e. 720p only;
- lots of inputs for connecting up game consoles and DVD player;
- well known reputable brand;
- built-in digital tuner;
- reasonably priced.

The only two which fitted my requirements were the Panasonic and the Samsung equivalent. When I did the on-line check for tech specs, the Panasonic was definitely the winner so then it was off to see the shops for the real thing. I could definitely see the difference between the two side by side watching the same picture. I found that the blacks were definitely more blacker on the Panasonic due to the higher contrast ratio with the Panasonic. The other important part was the sound, the sound on the newer LCD's are usually quite bad, but I was very surprised to hear some good sound coming out of the Panasonic, nice base and also speech was very good no muffling sound.

If you are after the best picture and sound then you cannot beat the Panasonic TC-L32X1, it is definitely by far the better buy. Although, I must say that the Samsung does look a little better aesthetically.
Better than Samsung LN32A550!

Reviewer: Daisy,
Extremely pleased with Panasonic Viera after returning top-rated Samsung due to harsh chemical smell which never went away. TV was easy for me to set up by myself (small woman) and attaching the stand was a breeze compared to the Samsung. Picture is clear and the SD card slot is Great!! I purchased this tv at Best Buy as I was in need of it immediately, but I cannot say enough for the delivery service I received from Amazon when I ordered and returned the Samsung. Customer service was outstanding in dealing with the very stressful situation of a chemical smell coming from the Samsung. I finally was told by the salesman at Best Buy that this is NOT uncommon and depends on how much fire retardent gets sprayed on the circuit board.

In summary - hooray for the Panasonic Viera and Amazon's continuing excellent selections, pricing, and customer service!!
EXCELLENT performance and value !!

Review Date: July 2, 2009

Everything about the purchase, delivery, and set-up of this HDTV was far beyond my expectations -- as was the amazing picture quality and technical features !!

Once again, the Consumer Reports' top-rated model, in this case, the Panasonic Viera TC-L32X1 32-inch LCD HDTV set, was all they said it would be.
Set-up and programming was fast and easy, even for a senior citizen -- and the picture quality is clear, sharp, and with brilliant colors !!
And all this with just a glorified "rabbit ears" antenna !!!

UPDATE - 10/28/09: The Viera is now connected to Cox Cable -- and the picture quality is beyond excellent !!

Amazon's bargain price and speedy delivery made this a rewarding buying experience !!

Great picture! Highly Versatile!

Reviewer: George Glass,
Bought this from Amazon and it was delivered within 3 days. Excellent picture, fast acting remote (very little delay if any). Best part of all, is the iPod dock. Interestingly enough the product says it's iPod compatible (iPod Classic, Touch, Nano, etc.) but it also works great with my iPhone 3G and charges the battery. When I plug the iPhone 3G into the dock, I do receive the standard message on my phone that the iPhone isn't designed to work with this particular item and asks if I want to switch to airplane mode to reduce any interference. I always say no (or the message will go away by itself within a few seconds). No problem with interference or compatibility so far. Very satisfied.

Awesome Picture, Value And Reliability For The Money

Review Date: November 10, 2009
Reviewer: Robert C. Belden, Land O'Lakes, FL
In my quest for a new MB/R TV, I had been researching LCD vs. Plasma, features, pricing, ratings and reviews for more months than I truly care to even mention. I caught a late October in-store special at HHGregg, which not only offered the lowest price I had seen anywhere on this TV, but also a free Panny Blu-ray player. That made the deal both irresistible and unbeatable, at just under seven Ben Franklins for everything. These newer Panasonic Viera plasmas with the fast 600 Hz Neo PDP panels are brighter, more power efficient, have an ultra wide viewing angle, suffer no image retention, run much cooler and are only just slightly heavier than an LCD TV of the same size. The more natural looking plasma picture quality, along with the full-time 1080p zero motion blur, is seriously, as good as your gonna get. Period!! They are an absolute steal in this price range, compared to any fast LCD or LED models. This combined with the legendary Panasonic build quality and reliability made it a no-brainer. The top-of-the-heap ratings from Consumer Reports magazine along with stellar customer reviews, absolutely sealed the deal for me, hands down. Simply put, I just couldn't justify spending 2x-3x the coin for a 240 Hz LCD TV or an even pricier LED TV for about the same (or less) picture quality. You'd have to be a complete fool to spend so much more and get absolutely nothing for it. So I beg anyone to truly compare and understand the specs and features on TVs, (or anything you're buying) and DO IT BEFORE YOU BUY ANYTHING!!
As for the TV itself, the initial assembly was easy. The stand was very solid and stable, using a total of six stainless steel bolts for fastening to the TV to the stand. The rear panel is also made out of metal - not plastic, which would likely make for more sturdy wall mounting, if that's your choice. The remote also felt solid and worked well. Both the TV and Blu-ray easily programmed with my universal remote, making it even more convenient. The initial TV set-up menus were also easy to navigate and the Viera link automatically recognized and configured the Viera Blu-ray player flawlessly. Watching my local news and the recent World Series with free digital HD broadcast using only rabbit ear antennas in 720p looked awesome. The VZ FiOS TV HD channels looked incredible at 1080i and the Blu-ray movies were nothing short of absolutely breath-taking in 1080p - totally impressive!! The sound on the TV is also well above average for a flat panel, especially after you tweak the bass, treble and surround settings to your taste.
The Panasonic build quality is just what you'd expect: solid with a high gloss, piano black finish. They even include a soft polishing cloth to help preserve the TV's beautiful finish. I am absolutely impressed with the TV and can highly recommend it as an outstanding choice to anyone considering a fine addition for their home entertainment enjoyment. And no matter where you buy, don't be scammed by any in-store, shameless sales-hole trying to hose you with extended warranties or worse yet, overpriced "Monster-profit" HDMI cables. The truth is that you can get a quality 6-9 ft. HDMI cable online at many of the major online sites with no tax and free shipping for about the price of a sandwich! Trust me, there is NO difference; try it yourself and see. Save your hard-earned money for some of your favorite movie titles on Blu-ray. You will absolutely love this TV!! Just be sure and have at least one HD source - like an HD cable/sat. box or a Blu-ray player to enjoy it to it's fullest. I hope my honest review seriously helps anyone out there looking for a great HDTV at a more down-to-earth price. Enjoy life. ((Bob-O!))

I've been looking for a new TV to replace my 26" tube TV for at least a year or more. Everything I was looking at was quite expensive. Well, now that prices are dropping around to what I can afford, I've finally caved in and bought a new TV.

I had my mind set on an LCD for the longest time. Supposedly, it was the kind of TV to get as a gamer. No blur, no burn-in: Important things like that. However, that was a year or more ago when I did my initial research. Now, plasma screens no longer have that kind of burn-in issue. Being heavily into gaming, this is perhaps the biggest issue to me. I didn't want to buy a TV that was just going to get ruined.

After telling my ideas to the salesman at HHGreg, he assured me that plasmas were great to use for gaming and this one would actually give me the best picture for what I'll be using it for. And it was a great buy (only $799).

Setup was a breeze right out of the box. I had it hooked up in less than 20 minutes. And 5 of those minutes were spent trying to find a way to get the main part of the box off (hint: It's the white plastic handle-like things on the sides. Unclip, then pull them off), while another 5 was me looking for a screwdriver, and yet another 5 spent on pulling things out of the box. So, if you're quick about it, you can probably get this thing running in 10 minutes.

The first thing I tested on this TV was Band of Brothers on Blu-Ray. Words are almost not enough for how amazing the picture quality is. And, I don't own a surround sound system, so all we had was what came from the TV. I almost wonder if I need a surround sound. Even at low volumes, this TV puts out great, crisp sound.

Next, I needed to see how a game looked. I picked Metal Gear Solid 4. It seemed almost like a completely different game than when I played it when it first came out. Again, everything was so crisp, clean, and clear as far as the visuals and audio was concerned. I have nothing but praise for this TV.

ADDITION!
So, I've had this TV for a couple of weeks and after coming home from work I popped in 'The Office' to watch a few episodes. I fell asleep with it on, and the DVD went to a very static (non-moving) screen for the DVD menu after the episodes on that disc were over. I woke up a little shocked after 6 hours to see the screen like it was. I turned the PS3 off, and saw there was a sliiiiiiiiight bit of image retention. But it cleared up quite quickly after turning it off while I went to some classes.

I still have nothing but praise for this TV, even if it, combined with my PS3, makes my room unbearably hot. It's a great winter investment...
Great TV

I trusted the feedback that others had listed about this TV on Amazon and I was not disappointed. The TV is great! Intuitive user controls, simple remote (some may argue too simple), looks great, etc. Most importantly, the picture is phenomenal and there is no motion blur to speak of! I agonized over the LCD or Plasma decision because our living room is very bright, but the bottom line is I did not want even a little motion blur during sports so I went with plasma for the better refresh rate (600hz). This TV is plenty bright for our sunny living room.

Things to be aware of: 1. This TV has only two HDMI inputs in back, the third is on the side. 2. The stand sticks out 5 inches from the front of the TV which can be an issue if you are putting it into an enclosure because it has to be recessed at least 5 inches.

All in all great TV and might I add great ordering and delivery experience with Amazon!

I bought this when my 37" Olevia LCD went out on me after 2 years. Thought I would go with a name brand TV this time. I too was looking for LCD's but noticed how much better the picture was on the Panasonic Plasma's. The price wasn't much different either. I settled on the TC-P42S1 and absolutely love it. It was an easy setup and it has many features you can tweak to make the picture perfect for your room.
Great TV

I upgraded from a 42" EDTV (480p) to the TC-P42S1 and the difference is drastic. The picture is awesome, the black levels are amazing. Overall this was a great purchase, I would recommend this to anyone looking for a 42" PDP.
